Enbridge pitching plans for three Sarnia-area energy storage projects

Article content A Calgary-based energy giant wants to build three massive battery storage systems in St. Clair Township that would help ensure a reliable supply of electricity in this part of Southwestern Ontario. Article content Enbridge’s proposal comes after a call by Ontario’s Independent Electrical System Operator (IESO), the Crown corporation that oversees the province’s electrical grid, for 900 megawatts in new battery energy storage systems to meet growing needs during times of peak demand, a company official said. Battery storage is one part of the 1,500 MW in new energy capacity the IESO plans to procure in the next few months, Enbridge spokesperson Mandy Dinning said in an email. “The new energy capacity IESO is planning to procure will come online in spring of 2025 to help meet its forecasted demand,” Dinning said.
