Hydrogen isn’t a solution for New York’s climate goals

Relying on electricity, not hydrogen, for new housing and transportation is the quickest, most affordable, and most environmentally sound way to attack the climate crisis, according to experts writing in the scientific journal Joule.  The report found that it is more efficient and affordable to heat homes directly with electricity rather than using renewable energy to produce hydrogen for home heating. 
National Grid’s Fossil Free Vision and decarbonization plan relies heavily on consuming the remaining fossil fuels as quickly as possible while proposing that New York transition its existing energy infrastructure to transport and utilize hydrogen as a replacement for fossil gas.
