Composites end markets: Fuel cells and batteries (2022)

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) report “Global Hydrogen Review 2021,” the cost of automotive fuel cells has fallen by 70% since 2008. Global fuel cell manufacturing capacity is expected to reach >200,000 systems/year by the end of 2021, supplied by more than 40 manufacturers.

Toyota (Aichi, Japan) currently produces 30,000 systems/year, while Hyundai (Seoul, South Korea) is building a second plant to bring its capacity to >40,000 systems/year by 2022, targeting 500,000 systems/year by 2030. Manufacturing capacity announcements by suppliers to date total 1.3 million…
