Athens awarded clean energy funding | News

ATHENS — The Village of Athens is set to receive $20,000 in clean energy funding from the state after the municipality took steps to become a climate smart community this year.As part of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Clean Energy Communities initiative, the village qualified for the funding through the state’s point-based system.To receive the funding, the village had to take steps to become a clean energy community by completing a series of climate-friendly tasks, including securing the commitment of 10 residents to sign up for a community solar program.The village can use the $20,000 to upgrade its energy infrastructure.“The money is limited to things that reduce energy use or that switch over from the use…
