A COUNCIL is to install solar panels on five of its buildings.
The step was approved by Blackburn with Darwen planning committee on Thursday night.
The buildings to get the Solar Photo Valtaic (SPV) arrays on their roof areas include Blackburn Town Hall and Blackburn Central Library.
The other three are Shadsworth, Little Harwood and Darwen Children’s Centres.
Planning manager Gavin Prescott told the committee: “The reasons for installing the SPV system, which forms part of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS), is to reduce the buildings’ reliance on grid electricity to save money and to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide.
“This will contribute towards the council’s Climate Emergency Declaration to be carbon neutral by 2030.
