Lightning eMotors orders batteries from CATL


Lightning eMotors, a company specialising in electric vehicles for commercial fleet use, will in future also rely on batteries from CATL. For Lightning eMotors, this is the second battery order within a few weeks.
A two-year contract now signed between the two companies provides for the delivery of CATL battery packs in two configurations (30 and 35 kWh) with a total capacity of 175 MWh. Lightning eMotors plans to start producing e-vehicles with CATL battery packs in March 2022.
Specifically, the agreement was executed through CATL distributor Coulomb Solutions, Inc. (CSI). This gives access to “multiple battery size and shape options”, which is critical to the goal of providing highly customised zero-emission commercial vehicles, Lightning said.
