The first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle has arrived in India

The Toyota Mirai is India’s first hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV). The sedan was unveiled by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, who also confirmed that Toyota’s recently debuted Camry Hybrid (the sole Camry model marketed in India) will be flex-fuel compatible in the near future. The Mirai is the company’s flagship FCEV, and it was introduced as a pilot project with the goal of promoting green hydrogen as a viable future fuel. The pilot was established by Toyota in partnership with India’s state-run automotive testing, certification, and R&D service organisation, the International Centre for Automotive Technology, situated in Gurugram.At present the Central Government is also pushing for green hydrogen to be turned into a viable counterpoint to increasingly expensive petrol and diesel.
