It’s imperative we turn to wind, solar energy – Daily Freeman

Dear Editor,
Between power outages and rate spikes, relying on the traditional electric grid in the Hudson Valley has become a game of chance. We need real energy independence: electricity we generate ourselves from home-grown sources to insulate us from the price volatility of fossil fuels. And we need more independence from the local grid when it goes down.
What better resources with which to achieve this than the wind and sun? They aren’t traded on international markets. They aren’t affected by awful events, like the Russian war in Ukraine. We can install solar panels and battery backup in our homes, subscribe to community solar, or choose energy suppliers that deliver wind and solar energy into the grid.
On a wider scale, we need to support the rapid development of large-scale renewables. This will not only get us out of the volatility of fossil fuel pricing, but will slow…
