Cairngorms National Park Authority calls in plan for battery energy storage facility by Boat of Garten

Plans for what could prove to be a test case for battery energy storage facilities being located in the Cairngorms National Park have been called in by the authority’s planners.Whirlwind Energy Storage is behind the proposal for the 49 megawatts facility on land 380 metres west of East Croftmore Farm by Boat of Garten.SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME? Fordtown battery storage at Kintore in Aberdeenshire.The call-in means that the CNPA’s planning committee will determine the application.The proposed development is intended to accommodate up to 50 battery storage units housed within containers along with ancillary structures at the site one kilometre north-east of the village.The technology is expected to become commonplace in the UK over the next decade and means the renewable energy projects including wind farms can become more efficient.Power can be released from the…
