The EU is far from being “fixated” on electric vehicles to the detriment of other low-emission transport technologies (“Bosch accuses EU of electric ‘fixation’ in pursuit of climate goals”, Report, April 23). Renewable fuels alternatives, as espoused by the head of Europe’s largest car parts supplier, are a chimera used to sow doubt and confusion among the public and policymakers. Powering just a fraction of the EU car fleet would require a huge expansion in renewables. Electric cars are the only credible path to cleaning up road transport. The dieselgate emissions scandal is just one example of the car industry’s long history of misleading the public. The industry has a responsibility to make the cleanest possible cars.
