United States: Hydrogen technology receives substantial support and funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

In brief
As part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (“Infrastructure Act”) signed into law on 15 November 2021, various initiatives and programs have been implemented for the purpose of accelerating the research, development, demonstration, and deployment of hydrogen from clean energy sources. In particular, the Infrastructure Act:

provides a statutory definition for the term “clean hydrogen”
establishes regional clean hydrogen hubs, including USD 8 billion in funding
establishes a clean hydrogen strategy and roadmap for the United States
prioritizes clean hydrogen demonstration projects to develop a clean hydrogen supply chain and workforce, including USD 1.5 billion in funding
creates a clearinghouse for clean hydrogen program information at the National Energy Technology Laboratory
