Indian battery recycling startup Lohum said it has inked a strategic partnership with Mercedes-Benz Energy to repurpose batteries of electric vehicles.
As per the agreement, Lohum will offtake a minimum of 50MWh across multiple second-use battery modules every year from Mercedes Benz Energy (MBE) globally. Lohum will also be the first partner for repurposing/recycling such modules for MBE in Asia.
Lohum develops second life applications primarily focused for the Indian stationary and non-auto mobility storage markets. These mobility applications include low-power applications such as the electric rickshaw and stationary applications range from small 6KWh batteries to larger 1MWh storage systems.
“Theirs (Lohum) is a truly long-term focus with a keen understanding that one of the biggest challenges for second life is the unpredictability of feedstock supply and composition,”
