Energy storage batteries bringing change | State

Energy from renewable sources is stored in huge, lithium-ion batteries that are primarily from China and potential fire hazards.This week, county Farm Bureau delegates are considering new policy on battery energy storage systems (BESS), a renewable energy development not addressed in Illinois Farm Bureau policy. BESS are devices that store energy from such renewable sources as solar and wind and release it later.At the Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, George Crabtree directs strategy and research of the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research.
