Airbus and Renault Join Forces to Develop Lighter Batteries for Aircraft, Vehicles

Airbus and Renault have signed a research and development agreement that is expected to lead to lighter batteries with up to double the energy density.The new partnership will see engineers from Airbus and Renault work together to “mature technologies related to energy storage(Opens in a new window).” More specifically, the focus will be on optimizing energy management and reducing the weight of the batteries, which is so important for aircraft while also allowing for range extension in electric vehicles.Alongside that, the engineering team will focus on how to move away from current lithium-ion batteries and adopt solid-state designs instead.
