New Delhi: The Indian electricity sector has a long and complex history, intertwined deeply with the political climate of the country. Consequently, policy imperatives can often be at loggerheads with market expectations. A classic example is the treatment of commercial & industrial (C&I) consumers of electricity.While C&I as a concept may seem straightforward (i.e. clean energy projects set up directly for commercial consumers), the term covers a wide range of projects (rooftop projects, onsite ground mounted projects and offsite open access projects) and customers (from industries to commercial complexes to educational institutions).
