‘Landmark’ waste-to-hydrogen deal signed during COP27

A new deal that promises to produce clean hydrogen while significantly reducing plastic waste has been signed between Egypt-based Green Planet for Sustainable Environmental Solutions (Green Planet) and solutions and energy company H2-Industries.Signed against the backdrop of international climate change conference COP27 in Sharm-al-Sheikh, Egypt, the agreement will see H2-Industries providing a ‘constant supply’ of organic and non-recyclable plastic waste to be used in the production of a targeted 300,000 tonnes of clean hydrogen per year.A new waste-to-hydrogen plant at East Port Said in the Suez Canal Economic Zone will produce the fuel, enabling industry to reduce its plastic waste – 400 million tonnes of which is produced each year – set to reach 1.1bn tonnes by 2050.According to OECD, globally only 9% of plastic waste is recycled each year, contributing to an…
