GLENVILLE (TNS) — Gary McPherson was an early solar adopter. An environmentally conscious homeowner and employee of the state Department of Environmental Conservation, he liked the idea of serving his family’s electricity needs with energy created by the sun.He worried, though, if his neighbors would object to the sight of the solar panels on his house.Rather than object, when McPherson had the panels installed 10 years ago, people in his neighborhood came to him for advice as they made the decision to have solar panels mounted on their roofs. McPherson paid $18,000 up front for 16 solar panels mounted on the roof of his south-facing, split-level home. After a tax break, his net cost was between $7,000 and $8,000.
