Masdar, the UAE’s state-owned renewable energy company, has acquired the UK-based battery energy storage system developer Arlington Energy.
Abu Dhabi-based Masdar did not give any financial details of the acquisition but said it will help the firm expand its footprint into the UK and European renewable energy markets.
London-based Arlington has acquired 170MW of renewable energy assets in the last two years. After acquiring Arlington, Masdar will integrate its operations and form one unified Masdar Arlington platform.
This is not the first time Masdar is foraying into the UK. The green energy company is already one of the biggest investors in the UK’s offshore wind energy space as it owns stakes in London Array, which is one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world.
