Looking at ways municipalities can invest in clean energy

Green energy in Upstate New York is the topic at hand on this episode of In Focus. JoDee Kenney sits down with Rob Richardson, clean energy communities coordinator of the Finger Lakes Planning Council, for a discussion on how municipalities can invest in clean energy. Richardson says there are many ways for cities and towns to make themselves a little greener, whether it’s through new sources of energy like solar, or upgrading existing buildings to be more efficient, or replacing municipal vehicles with electric ones. He also says there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, and municipalities need to determine what changes suit their individual needs. He also discusses how these investments can be funded, with help from both state and federal loans — and the financial benefits that green infrastructure can have in the long run.
