Missouri lawmakers unlikely to tackle solar energy tax issue next year

JEFFERSON CITY — Disagreements over how Missouri should tax large solar energy farms may not be resolved in the coming legislative session.In a meeting Monday, a special panel of state lawmakers, local tax assessors and renewable energy groups finalized a report they compiled designed to address disputes between local governments and solar energy companies over property taxes.But the chairman of the Task Force on Fair, Nondiscriminatory Local Taxation Concerning Solar Energy Systems said he is unsure that an immediate solution is in the offing.“I don’t know that we resolved anything,” said Sen. Mike Cierpiot, R-Lee’s Summit. “I don’t know if we will do anything this year.”
