Stewards of the earth: Baptist church congregation invests in solar energy upgrades in Windsor, N.S.

WINDSOR, N.S. — After cutting energy costs by almost half since moving to a new location, the congregation of Windsor Baptist Church set its sights on what more could be done to lessen its environmental footprint.

Rev. Rob Heffernan, the lead pastor at the Windsor Baptist Church, said it was paying upwards of $25,000 in heating costs annually when it was located in a building that dated back to 1898 on King Street. In November 2019, the church held its last service at the historic downtown Windsor location, decommissioned the building and relocated to 219 Payzant Dr., a more modern church.
That move cut the bills by nearly half, he said.
