Remember to change batteries in smoke detectors when changing clocks – The Oakland Press

The Farmington Hills Fire Department urges everyone to change their smoke alarm batteries when changing their clocks from Daylight Saving Time back on Sunday, Nov. 6.
“It’s an easy, inexpensive, and proven way to protect your family and your home,” said Fire Marshal Jason Baloga.
Since 1987, the International Association of Fire Chiefs has joined with Energizer
batteries in the Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery campaign to spread the
message that non-working smoke alarms are responsible for needless home fire deaths
and injuries.
So far in 2022, the state of Michigan reports that 99 people have died in 83 residential fires, which is a 10% increase in the number of fires compared to the 2017-2021 average. Only 43% of the homes where fatalities occurred had working smoke alarms.
