National View: Fossil fuels, clean energy are both needed to avoid shortfalls – Duluth News Tribune

The 2022-’23 Farmers Almanac states that frigid temperatures will flow into many areas nationwide this winter. In 2021, a polar vortex crippled much of the nation. People died because of the severe cold, and there were billions of dollars in damages. Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota were able to bring residents reliable energy because of a balanced approach. Unfortunately, states like Texas and Colorado found themselves in an energy crisis and sent out messages to residents to restrict their energy use. Those states even implemented rolling brownouts due to the energy-capacity shortfall. Similar brownouts happened in California this summer during heat waves when energy capacity could not keep up with demand.This year, the U.S. has continued to see the lingering effects of COVID-19, including supply-chain crises.
