China battery makers actively expanding capacities for energy storage systems

Main China-based lithium-ion battery makers, in view of large potential demand for energy storage systems, have been actively investing in setting up additional production capacities, according to industry sources.EVE Energy in April 2022 decided to invest CNY20 billion (US$2.81 billion) to set up a lithium-ion battery factory with annual production capacity of 50GWh in two phases and a battery research institute in Chengdu, western China. The company then decided to invest CNY3.0 billion to set up a battery factory with annual production capacity of 10GWh in Yuxi, southwestern China, and another CNY3.0 billion to set up a battery factory with the same annual production capacity in Qujing, also southwestern China.In addition, EVE in early June announced investment of CNY3.0 billion to set up an energy storage headquarters together with a research institute in…
