Chilean power generators have welcomed the solid backing that draft legislation linked to decarbonization efforts received in the senate on Wednesday (pictured). The upper house’s energy and mining committee voted unanimously in favor of the energy storage and electromobility bill, which now moves to the finance committee before being put to a final vote in the full senate. The text has already cleared the lower house. Claudio Seebach, executive president of local power generation association Generadoras de Chile, said in a statement: “We value the unanimous support for the storage and electromobility bill.” Seebach cited the role of storage in Chile’s energy transition, adding that the draft legislation was among enabling conditions needed for the requisite decarbonization investments in the areas of storage and generation.
