IMLAY CITY — Nearly 280 vehicles came through the Eastern Michigan State Fairgrounds on Wednesday to drop off a variety of household hazardous waste at the countywide collection. Lapeer County Commissioner Bryan Zender volunteered to help during the event, and reported to the Board of Commissioners on Thursday that he had never seen so many batteries — nearly two 55-gallon drums worth. The collection also allowed Lapeer County residents to safely dispose of oil-based paints, pesticides and herbicides, light bulbs, and other items. “It went really good,” said Zender. “It was really a worthwhile deal.”
