PowerCell to deliver fuel cells to Amogy’s ammonia-powered workboat

Swedish fuel cell producer PowerCell has received an order for fuel cell systems and related services from U.S.-based Amogy to be installed in a workboat.

PowerCell, an industrial spinout from the Volvo Group, develops and produces fuel cell stacks and systems for stationary and mobile applications. The fuel cells are powered by hydrogen, pure or reformed, and produce electricity and heat with no emissions.

Amogy, launched in 2020 by four MIT Ph.D. alumni, has developed a proprietary ammonia-to-power technology platform to decarbonize the global transportation industry. The technology has been demonstrated in an aerial drone and farming tractor, and the company wants to scale up the platform for use in larger vehicles, including ships.
