Efforts to decarbonise Asian economies are ‘lagging’ but the region could soon ‘leapfrog’ the rest of the world as green finance gathers momentum, according to a new report by Janus Henderson.
Asia Pacific was the fastest growing region for green bond sales globally in 2021, selling $124.53bn of green debt, which was a 128% increase compared with the previous year.
However, the region has ‘lagged’ the world in moving to clean energy, with its decarbonisation rate sitting at 0.9% in 2020 compared to the global average of 2.5%, according to Janus Henderson’s Decarbonisation in Emerging Markets – Perspectives and Insights from Asia report.
