San Antonio is the fifth-largest producer of solar energy among U.S. cities, with solar panels here generating more power than in any other municipality in Texas, according to a new report.San Antonio has about 355 megawatts of solar energy capacity installed within the city, enough to power more than 70,000 homes on a hot summer day, according to the Environment Texas Research & Policy Center, which authored the “Shining Cities” report.
San Antonio’s solar capacity includes solar farms that city-owned CPS Energy operates in South Bexar County, as well as rooftop solar arrays on homes, businesses and parking lots.
