I respond to Pete Esslinger’s April 6 letter titled “Real Truth about clean/dirty energy.” The premise of his letter is that purposed clean renewable energy technologies will require fossil fuels to construct and that the needed raw material mining process will cause increased environmentally destruction.Mr. Essinger commits a Tu Quoque logical fallacy (Latin for “you too”). In other words, saying that renewable energy technologies are bad because they are just as dirty as fossil fuel-based technologies.Yes, there is an element of truth here, but it begs the question: do we have a choice? To that I say two things.
