Local and state government focus on using clean energy vehicles :: WRAL.com

By Rick Armstrong, WRAL Enterprise multimedia journalistOn Tuesday, Governor Roy Cooper announced a new electric vehicle and battery plant coming to Chatham County.

At the same time, local and state governments are focusing on clean energy vehicles in their own fleets as well. That was the focus of a special Clean Transportation Demonstration Day on the State Highway Patrol’s driving course off Tryon road in Raleigh.

Many cars, big trucks and buses visited the course to help visitors learn more about the benefits of electric or hybrid energy in all sorts of vehicles, including a large Mack truck designed for trash pick-up. “They don’t wake you up in the morning if they’re coming to pick up your trash at 5am,” said Rick Sapienza with NC State University’s NC Clean Energy Technology Center.
