EQT hopes to see responsible transition to clean energy

Stockholm-listed private-equity firm EQT, which plans to acquire Hong Kong-based Baring Private Equity Asia in a $7.5 billion deal, is also seeking to expand in the US, particularly in infrastructure investing. The firm, which pursues several other strategies such as buyouts, real estate and growth investing, is focusing its infrastructure bets largely on businesses that help reduce carbon emissions, said Alex Darden, EQT’s head of U.S. infrastructure. In three deals worth a total of roughly $12 billion, the Stockholm-based firm last year acquired solar-project developer Cypress Creek Renewables LLC, waste-to-energy plant operator Covanta Holding Corp., and the North American school bus and transit operations of FirstGroup PLC.
