How Solid-State Batteries Could Pack in Twice as Much Energy per Pound

Solid-state batteries could double their energy density and lower their volatility through a better manufacturing process.Fabricating solid parts that fully contact each other inside the battery is difficult.Trapped gases can be corrosive to the battery parts they touch.There’s a better way to build solid-state lithium batteries, scientists say. By studying the battery manufacturing process, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Upton, New York-based Brookhaven National Laboratory have eliminated a tiny (but crucial) contamination issue, which could cut down on the complexity in future battery designs.
