12.7 kilos of heroin hidden in Duralast batteries found during Alabama traffic stop; drugs going from Texas to Atlanta, records show

A traffic stop on an Alabama interstate led to the discovery of more than 12 kilograms of heroin hidden in what appeared to be spare Duralast batteries.A Texas man identified as Hector Irving Garcia-Alvarado is now charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute.Federal court records made public Monday chronicle the chain of events that led to the massive bust.On Thursday, Feb. 10, 17th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force interdiction officers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 20/59 near mile marker 30 in Greene County. The vehicle was stopped for speeding and following too close.Garcia, according to Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Quinn Harris, gave consent for officers to search the vehicle.
