February 11 (Renewables Now) – San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), a unit of Sempra (NYSE:SRE), has obtained authorisation from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to build three energy storage plants with a combined capacity of 161 MW/644 MWh.The San Diego-based energy company will add these batteries so that the state can have a greater capacity to meet high energy demand on summer days and at night, it said in a press release on Thursday.The capacity of the new facilities will enable meeting the power consumption of over 100,000 homes for up to four hours and it will be connected to the state energy market. Completion of each project is expected either in late 2022 or early 2023.SDG&E anticipates reaching 145 MW of company-owned storage connected to the regional grid by the end of the current year….
