Swiss battery manufacturer Leclanché has spun off its electric transport business. The new wholly-owned Swiss company called Leclanché E-Mobility S.A. was established on 16 December 2021.
Leclanché says it intends to merge this company with a US-listed SPAC (Special Purpose Acquisition Company). A partner has already been found and a conditional exclusive letter of intent signed – but the SPAC has not been named. The merger is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2022.
In announcing the SPAC merger, Leclanché mentions recent supply chain difficulties, acknowledging that the combination of tight liquidity and global supply chain disruption is resulting in intermittent cell production at Leclanché’s German cell plant in Willstätt.
